Health, Safety And Environment Debates At CWU Annual Conference 2019

This year sees the smallest Health, Safety and Environment section on the Agenda of the CWU Annual Conference being held in Bournemouth on 28th April 2019, with more motions x-marked and not allowed onto the agenda than those that will be debated.

Further, the motions are spread over three separate sections this year, as can be seen in the picture to the right.

Unionsafety will cover the debates on these motions as in previous years, although its resources will be stretched to also cover the International Worker's Memorial Day event in Liverpool being held the same day.

Annually events across the world commemorate those losing their lives whilst at work is held 28th April.

The CWU's Health, Safety and Environment Dept have already announced that this year, the highly attended Health and Safety Fringe meeting which traditionally takes place on the Monday of Conference week, will this year be a joint event with the Union's Equality Dept.

As previously reported by this website:

'This year, given the urgency with which the Union sees mental health at work and in the community as a major issue facing the Trade Union movement, following the emotional debates on the issues at Conference 2018; the CWU Health & Safety Department and the newly formed Equality and Training Department were both going to headline mental health in their respective fringe meetings.

In order to maximise the opportunity for those delegates working in both fields; to not have to choose between the two fringe meetings as happened from time to time; running a joint fringe meeting where mental health is the subject matter made perfect sense.

More importantly with the CWU recognising that supporting its members mental health at work concerns both departments, the logic of having a joint fringe meeting involving both departments with such a key speaker as Jonathon Ashworth; is a logical and positive move.'

This website will report on the Fringe Meeting and Jonathon Ashworth's speech via USR's attending the event, hopefully with pics and video also.

With the General Conference being the only element of the CWU's annual conference being video broadcast, it is not always possible to bring the readers of this website, full reports from other relevant conference events in the form of the two separately held industrial conferences: The Postal Conference and that of the Telecoms and Financial Services Conference.

In addition to these annual sections of the Conference, this year a special Rules Revision Conference will be held on the Monday the 29th April, which will also be broadcast live.

Unionsafety will endeavour to provide feed back from all aspects of the CWU Conference during the week of 28th April to 2nd May.
